The foundation determined to defeat neurodegenerative disease.

The Silvi Foundation advances research into neurodegenerative diseases through funding, collaboration, and a commitment shaped by personal experience.

Our Story

The Silvi Foundation was created in honor of the Silvi family’s experience with neurodegenerative disease, a journey marked by the diagnosis of Larry Silvi Sr., founder of Silvi Materials, who lived with Alzheimer’s. His illness had a profound impact on the Silvis, mirroring the challenges faced by millions of families across the country. Caring for him underscored the importance of early detection, stronger treatment options, and greater scientific understanding.

That experience was further shaped by the impact of Alzheimer’s on Larry Sr.’s wife, Rose Silvi. As Larry’s primary caregiver, Rose witnessed firsthand the emotional and practical toll neurodegenerative disease places on patients and families. She later suffered from dementia and passed away in 2020, deepening the family’s understanding of the urgent need for progress in research, treatment, and care.

That background continues to guide the family’s values and their commitment to supporting meaningful research. Several members of the Silvi family have participated directly in research studies, both as patients and as family contributors, helping advance scientific learning in ways that connect their personal story to the broader effort to improve diagnosis, treatment, and care.

Responsibility & Care for Others

The Foundation reflects the same principles that have shaped Silvi Materials for three generations: responsibility, care for others, and a belief in contributing to the well-being of the communities they serve

Through the Silvi Foundation, the family extends these values to support researchers, institutions, and programs working to better understand and treat neurodegenerative diseases.

Our Mission

The Silvi Foundation partners with leading institutions and researchers to support work that advances understanding, early diagnosis, treatment, and care for individuals affected by Alzheimer’s, dementia, ALS, Parkinson’s, and related conditions. We focus on efforts that demonstrate scientific rigor, innovative approaches, and meaningful potential for impact.

Our mission is strengthened by a commitment to thoughtful grantmaking, responsible stewardship, and collaboration with organizations working to improve outcomes for patients and families.

Advancing Discovery

We support early-stage scientific research that deepens understanding of neurodegenerative disease and lays the groundwork for future breakthroughs.

Innovating Diagnosis & Care

We invest in forward-thinking approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and care that have the potential to improve outcomes and quality of life.

Strengthening Systems of Support

We fund collaborative efforts across institutions and programs that enhance support for patients, caregivers, and families navigating these conditions.
