IND — Blood Biomarker Research

The Silvi Foundation supports IND’s work to improve early detection, diagnosis, and understanding of neurodegenerative diseases through rigorous biomarker research.

IND (Parkinson’s Research and Education Foundation, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization conducting innovative work with strong potential to strengthen the scientific understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. Their focus on developing accessible, blood-based diagnostic tools aligns closely with the Silvi Foundation’s mission to support research that advances early detection, effective treatment, and improved patient outcomes.

IND’s combination of scientific rigor, community education, and patient-centered support reflects the values that guide our Foundation. Their work addresses a critical challenge in neurology: identifying disease risk and progression early enough to meaningfully impact care.

FUNDING TO DATE

What Our Funding Supports

The Silvi Foundation awarded IND a $100,000 grant to advance their blood-based biomarker research. This grant strengthens a research effort with the potential to improve early detection and support more precise clinical research across Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, and other related conditions.

This support helps fund:

Research-related equipment and laboratory supplies

Salaries for IND’s three-member lab team

Ongoing development of a national biorepository for biomarker research

Continued analysis of biomarkers that may indicate neurodegenerative disease risk

What IND Does

IND conducts research focused on identifying biomarkers that can reveal a person’s risk for neurodegenerative diseases before symptoms appear. Their work also aims to create a low-cost diagnostic test that could help individuals understand their risk and take preventive steps to support long-term neurological health.

In addition to research, IND provides community support through:

  • Free educational programs
  • Wellness and prevention classes
  • Resources for individuals and caregivers
  • Outreach to at-risk communities

This combination of research and community care strengthens their impact and further aligns with our Foundation’s values.

Values Alignment

IND’s combination of scientific rigor, community education, and patient-centered support reflects the values that guide our Foundation

Expected Impact

IND’s work has the potential to:

  • Improve early diagnosis through blood-based biomarker testing
  • Support more accurate and efficient clinical trial design
  • Strengthen understanding of disease risk and progression
  • Provide researchers with better tools to characterize and monitor neurodegenerative diseases
  • Contribute to improved patient care across multiple conditions

IND expects to publish research findings in late 2025 or early 2026, contributing to the broader scientific community and informing future research.

Alignment With Our Mission

The Silvi Foundation is committed to supporting research that advances understanding, early diagnosis, treatment, and care for individuals affected by neurodegenerative disease. IND’s biomarker research directly supports these priorities and reflects the values of care, responsibility, and scientific advancement that guide our work.

Our partnership with IND represents a meaningful step toward strengthening the tools researchers and clinicians need to better serve individuals and families affected by these conditions.
